Hi everyone, I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I’m Chris K, and I’m your new AGPA President. I’ve been a member for many years now and I appreciate the trust you’ve placed in me as the new President. I got my start with gold panning at Klondike Days. Myself and a small group of young adults returned for about 5 straight years on the 5-11pm shift. We were very good at showing how to pan and assisting with the daily competitions. After leaving that role I did earn my chrome pan (adult daily competition winner) and competed regularly in the Klondike Days Invitational Competition against the best of the best! It was no doubt I had gold fever! I eventually got up to compete in Taylor, BC. I even got second place one year in their Bannock Baking competition! I’ve been lucky to also compete at competitions in Fort Steele, Cherryville (Enderby), Barkerville, and the Fraser River competitions.
The AGPA itself holds a lot of history and memories. We still have a few members that are with us that were there at the very beginning of the club. The need to renew the club’s life blood – it’s members is at center stage for us on the executive. My hope is that we can have events not just competitions that invite and share prospecting ideas that will help bring in new members. I encourage members to reach out to family and friends and say hey, this might be something to check out. We are a friendly bunch, who love to shovel a ton for fun!
Our next event coming up is the Spring Breakout at Mink Lake Campground. You can book a campsite there or a hotel nearby. If you come out for the day the campground has given attendees a discount to $5 per car(reg $20) for visiting. Come and check it out, we’d love to see you there!
